Our Colorado Ski Safari

Posted on

A Colorado Ski Safari is the stuff every SnowAngel and Skibums dreams are made of. Here's a few of our fave things from our recent trip…..

** Downtown BRECKENRIDGE is one of the cutest towns in Colorado, with gorgeous Victorian Houses on every corner, a fab selection of coffee shops and some really funky boutiques. Our fave store was definitely Valley Girl which has a great mix of cheaper fashion and local handcrafted jewellery. The skiing is loads of fun in Breck but be aware that it can be super busy on weekends with all the Denver traffic.

** BEAVER CREEK gets our vote for the best grooming in Colorado and the steepest range of Double Black bump runs on the famous Birds of Prey. A Bloody Mary at the RItz Carlton in Bachelor Gulch is a must and for the best lunches head to The Golden Eagle in Beaver Creek Village, every ski instructors secret and gets our vote for best salads and friendliest staff. For the ultimate night out, a romantic sleigh ride to Beano's Cabin will set any SnowAngel's heart a flutter.

** Two weeks in ASPEN is never enough. With 4 resorts to choose from and a never ending array of dining options, there is so much to choose from however… CLOUD NINE on Aspen Highlands wins the most fave lunch venue every time!! They don't call it "Ski in - Dance out" for nothing. Just make sure you call ahead and book a table or you will ski away disappointed and miss all the dancing on table action. In town we always head to Little Nells for some fun Apres action and the Sky Bar is another red hot Apres fave. For a great Off-piste experience make sure you hike the highlands bowl, if you don't want to go by yourself, check out the timetable for the free daily guides on hand. Aspen is a paradise for any shop-a-holic with far too many luxury boutiques to mention. For the best selection of Ski Fashion Performance Ski never disappoints (it's the same owners as Tommy Bowers in Vail) and for high end boutiques slide around the corner to "Nuages" and "Max" as they always have cutting edge fashion and "Pitkin County" has always been a SnowAngel fave for knitwear and funky jewellery. For those who need some high altitude pampering, the spa at the St Regis has just been awarded the best Spa in the USA and the massages will leave you floating on Seventh Heaven.

** For those looking for more of an off piste experience the VAIL back bowls rarely disappoint, make sure you make it to Blue Sky Basin and don't forget your trail map. People have been known to get lost on Vail Mountain with the endless choice of runs, it can literally take most of the day to get from one end of the mountain to the other. The famous run "Lost Boy" didn't get its name for nothing. The new "10th" Restaurant in mid Vail is a lively new choice for lunch and so much better than any cafeteria options. However we still love the euro flair of Pepi's in Vail Village for the best schnitzel and super fun Apres sessions with live music. For shopping check out Gorsuch's flag ship store for 5 levels of SnowAngel heaven and Pano Boutique for eclectic pieces and our SnowAngel Snowbunny Tees :)

**TELLURIDE wins our vote for the most uber cool ski town in Colorado. It has awesome skiing and the steepest groomed runs in the USA. There is a bohemian vibe in downtown Telluride that you won't find in many ski towns and the cafe and bar options make for a super fun holiday. Our fave watering hole was "the Butcher and Baker", for the yummiest food and cocktails. We struck it lucky with unbelievable skiing when we visited Telluride and we absolutely loved the steep slopes of Revelation Bowl and the endless tree runs around the mountain. Lunch at Alpino Vino never fails to disappoint, on a bluebird day make sure you grab an alfresco table, soak in the stunning views and watch the world schuss by. Telluride also has a great selection of one off boutiques, "Sublime" was definitely one of our faves, as was "The Swanky Buckle" and "Heritage". Telluride definitely won our vote for the friendliest ski town.

The best thing about KEYSTONE is the night skiing, for those with endless energy you can ski into the moonlight and really get some value from your Epic Pass. Keystone is conveniently located close to Silverthorne, the outlet town and must stop destination for those that love to grab a shopping bargain or two.

We sure had a blast on our Colorado Ski Safari and we have the credit card bills and a few missing toenails to prove it. :)
